The Hospital. Living in Baltimore was the perfect definition of loving the city but not the hospital as much LOL!
Here I worked in the Observation Unit night shift and it was pretty much a piece of cake! This hospital was walking distance from the apartment I found. The apartment was on St. Paul, had a rooftop, and was centrally located Downtown close to everything! It was sooooo bombbb! I had to complete hospital orientation for a week long with all of the other new-hires (super long!). Most of the patients had chest pain, wound care, alcohol/drug withdrawal, medical management issues, etc. They were expected to stay overnight but sometimes they were admitted as an inpatient.
While working there I was a charge nurse at times, this was a new unit and there weren’t many nurses that worked there. I mostly monitored patients, not many nurses that worked on that unit had critical care experience. I rarely had to call the doctor for anything unless there was a withdrawal patient that was extremely agitated or wanted to leave AMA. Working here was my first time using Epic and fell in love with it, more modern than all of the other charting systems I had used in the past. I’m not gonna lie this hospital was rough and not in the best part of Baltimore. The methadone clinic is right across the street from the hospital, a lot of the patients are “frequent flyers” and there is a high homeless population.

Fun and Food. Baltimore was absolutely SO MUCH FUN!! There is no way I can say ALL of the fun places to go… Often I would get on the train or drive to DC for happy hour or for the weekend. Virginia, New York, and Pennsylvania are all states that are easy to get to via train, bus, or car which makes Maryland a perfect area to be. Fells Point is an area that I went to at least every other week for food and/or relaxing by the Harbor. This is a nice place to go during the day or night, they also have bars and clubs to hop around. Sangria is a lounge that’s in downtown Baltimore that was walking distance from my apartment for the young, black professional crowd. They had events like speed-dating, events for artists to showcase their work, and listening parties.  Inner Harbor is also a place I would go to hang out; they have shops, boat rides, food, and a mall located across the street.
During my travel assignment was baseball season so Oriole games were plenty of fun to go to, after the game hangin’ with baseball fans is always a good time! Ravens also have a football field there, so that may be of interest depending when your travel assignment is.
On Sundays, my schedule usually consists of going to church but by being a travler its’s hard to find a church home. Most Sundays I go to “Bedside Baptist” LOL. I go online and fellowship at First Church of God my home church in Columbus, OH for my Sunday word!
